Hey there.
In my opinion there are two routes to keep progressing the Black empowerment movement, both being great options:
Passive route: Sit, listen, learn.
Active route: Buy, hire, build.
Both have their time and place depending on the circumstances, but I felt the need to immediately build where I could. Myself and two colleagues (and great friends), Greg Parker and Hunter Thompson, spent the past weekend and nights building The Black Owned Businesses.
The purpose of this resource is to further empower Black entrepreneurs and leaders by promoting their successful brands and other valuable resources that stimulate entrepreneurship in Black communities. There's a lot of information (and misinformation) out there on where dollars are going, where they should go, what nonprofit does what for whom, and who and who doesn't deserve to be a leader of this movement. It's a lot, and probably overwhelms many.
But if we’re going to supporting black-owned businesses, we can’t think of it as an act of charity, a one-off thing. When frequency and customer lifetime value is what will really help these companies take off. Direct dollars to someone building a real business is as simple as it gets.
If you know of a brand, creator, or business we need to include please submit them here.
